We heard some very unfortunate news recently. We were saddened to hear that our amazing guide, Abel, was killed in a car accident in Tanzania. He left behind his wife and two daughters. Abel was a truly incredible person who, if it had not have been for his wisdom and guidance we would not have been able to conquer the heights of KILI.
It is with this news that we, as a group, are aiming to raise the funds needed to help his two daughters through their final years of education in Tanzania. I, and I know his family, would be incredibly grateful if you could contribute whatever you can to this cause.
If you would like to donate please contact email me and I will let you know how you can help.
Well, firstly a big big thank you to all of you that helped us raise the money required to take part in this life changing adventure. It was a hard struggle to get there but we got to the top of Kili.
We've been back for well over 6 months now so I realise the website is a little late in coming but as everybody says "better late than never"
I have never had to put my body and mind through such physical and emotional pressures as I had to on that final climb to the summit. If I’d have trained day and night for the proceeding months nothing could have prepared me for what I faced on that day. After saying all of this, at no point on the trek did I ever consider giving up. I had said all along, from when we signed up to do the trek, that I would reach the summit and I did - I feel very proud of what I achieved and what everybody else had also achieved.
Would I recommend the climb to other people? Yes, without a doubt. Get up there and when you do it don’t just go through a travel company instead do it for AMREF and FARM Africa. I’m sure you’ll have a far better time and you’ll also be doing it for other people and not just yourself. What other charities give you the opportunity to visit the projects where your sponsorship may end up? It is both a rewarding and eye opening experience and one that many people could benefit from.
Please take some time out of your hectic lives to have a good look around the site and I'm sure you will realise that your sponsorship money really went to people who need it. It also wasn't a walk in the park it was a walk up a really high mountain and so I was made to work hard for your sponsorship money! If you haven't got the time to read through the website then please download the story from here and peruse at your own leisure.
